Glacier Energy Services expands offering with acquisition of Site Machining Services

The acquisition is a first for Glacier following its formation around the management buyout of MB Oil and Gas in 2011, including highly respected pipeline machining company Roberts and renowned welding services specialist Wellclad.

Site Machining Services, is a specialist provider in pipe cutting and preparation services to the global oil and gas industry, and has witnessed significant growth since its establishment in 2006.

Jeff Milne, founding director of Site Machining Services, will remain with the business alongside his existing staff of 12 and will play a key role in driving forward its development as a Glacier company.

Glacier Energy Services' combined business operations now has a turnover approaching £10million, with 60 staff working across the UK and international markets from its operational bases in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Newcastle.

Sandy Smart, director of the site services and rental business at Glacier Energy Services, says: "This acquisition demonstrates Glacier's commitment to investment to meet rising demand from our customer base for specialist engineering solutions.

"Site Machining Services, led by Jeff Milne, is a well-respected company which has consistently delivered through its experienced workforce and expansive technology offering. The company demonstrates the values we believe are important to our customers - quality, flexibility and choice - and I am excited about the new opportunities this deal brings."

The acquisition was enabled by further investment from Maven Capital Partners and Simmons Parallel Energy, which together, invested £8million in Glacier's purchase of Roberts and Wellclad in 2011. Dave Sturrock, chief executive of Glacier Energy Services, said: "This is a key business area which we believe will help us achieve further growth, and we intend on investing in additional technicians and equipment to facilitate an increased workload.

"Glacier harnesses the combined manufacturing capability, technology and expert staff of three very well known and respected companies in Roberts, Wellclad and now Site Machining Services, delivering for clients across the production and processing equipment, intervention and pipeline component disciplines."

Ewan MacKinnon, investment director at Maven Capital Partners said: "We are pleased to continue our investment relationship with Glacier, which has developed a solid reputation and the acquisition of Site Machining Services will further enhance the group's standing and will play a key role in achieving further growth."

Frank Summers, head of Simmons Parallel Energy added: "We have been impressed by the management team's vision for Glacier and it is great to see the company continue its strategic expansion, and we are happy to provide ongoing support to their continued development."
