Glacier expands its integrated offering by investing in new facility in Birmingham

Glacier’s new Birmingham based manufacturing facility has been created as a centre of excellence for the design, manufacture and repair of both shell & tube and air cooled heat exchangers, as well as a hub from where onsite machining and non-destructive services can support the downstream oil and gas, power generation, petro chemical and industrial market sectors.

The modern manufacturing facility, which totals 23,500 square feet including 5500 square feet of a secure yard, is fully equipped with a 10 tonne over head crane along with large modern CNC machines with capabilities in milling, drilling, and turning and boring.  Glacier have also installed a fabrication facility within the building which will allow them to provide coded welding. All thermal and mechanical design by Glacier is completed in accordance with ASME, PED & TEMA and is supported by 3D drawing & CAD CAM systems.

The new building is situated within the Birmingham’s premier business park, Gravelly Industrial Park with access from M6 & M42 as well as close locality to Birmingham International Airport and all major rail links

Recent work scopes that have been carried out in Glacier’s new Birmingham facility include a newly manufactured Shell & Tube exchanger – a replacement for a unit originally manufactured in 1970 for a Norwegian aluminium plate rolling mill.  Using our thermal design expertise we were able to improve the heat transfer characteristics of the unit by redesigning the internal workings of the cooler whilst maintaining all original pipework interface positions, meaning that the client did not have to carry out any alterations to his site.

Along with newly manufactured equipment, Glacier can provide a repair, refurbishment or upgrade option to clients.  For all refurbishment or upgrade work scopes, all welds are subjected to 100% MPI, to allow the team to re-use any parts, ultimately bringing thousands of pounds worth of savings to the customer.  As well as this, Glacier has specialist titanium welding capabilities to allow them to upgrade materials to titanium, a more cost effective solution to replace copper nickel alloy components such as tubes, tube sheets and headers.

For more information around any of the capabilities within our new facilities or any of our other bases please contact ges@glacier.co.uk or use the enquiry form within our “Contact Us” page.
